Inclement weather policy

posted Jan 21, 2016, 8:14 AM by Kim Buckley

Binkley Preschool follows the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS) inclement weather policy. When the city schools are closed, we are closed. If the city schools operate on delay, Binkley will open at 10:00a. Information on closings will be available on the CHCCS Weather Hotline: 919-967-8211 (x28317) and on the city school’s website (www.chccs.k12.nc.us). Missed days due to inclement weather are not made up.

In instances when CHCCS needs to close early due to inclement weather, Binkley Preschool will close 30 minutes prior to CHCCS Elementary schools’ revised schedule. Binkley Preschool will notify parents by email as soon as information becomes available. Please make sure the preschool always has your current email address.

NAEYC National Conference

Many thanks to our Parent Board for making possible our recent trip to Orlando to attend the National Association for the of Young Children conference. It was a joy to represent Binkley Preschool and we all came home very proud and thankful for our preschool. Between 5 staff members, we attended sessions on outdoor play, music, cardboard challenges, sensory issues, organization, staff training and art.

The opportunity to attend a national level conference with our peers from throughout the world speaks volumes about the commitment both parents and staff have to making this a truly special preschool!

Updates on In-Service Training

posted Oct 16, 2015, 8:20 AM by Kim Buckley

All teachers at Binkley earn 10 hours (or more!) of in-service training each year. Required training sessions include First Aid/CPR (every 2 years) and Darkness to Light (every 3 years). However, we also have opportunities to learn new skills and strategies and different teaching techniques from several local agencies and conferences which are offered in our area. In addition, each of our teachers periodically visits another program to learn how different preschools operate and to gain insights from being an 'observer'.

This month, 3 of our 4's teachers had an opportunity to spend the morning with their fellow teaching professionals at the annual Durham Orange Preschool Association(DOPA) conference. While there, they had a chance to network with other teachers and they attended 3 training sessions:
Extending Outdoor Play
Temperaments in Children (and adults!)
Music in the Classroom

Many thanks  to the Parent Board for making this training a priority and to our substitute teachers who filled in for our teachers.

Halloween Parades are coming!

posted Oct 16, 2015, 8:01 AM by Kim Buckley

Please gather in the center of the big playground just after drop off and leave the gate area clear. After all the children have arrived (please be on time!), we will parade around the playground (or in case of rain, our activities will be moved to the Fellowship Hall). After the parade, each class will have time for a photo session.

Remember, costumes are optional.  For those children who change their minds, we have plenty of dress up available here.  If your child’s costume has a mask, please do not bring it for the parade.

After the parade and pictures, please collect all of your child’s costume items and accessories and take them with you.  If you are unable to stay for the parade, we will send your items home at the end of the day.  In any case, please make sure your child has regular clothes (and shoes!) to wear for school after the parades.

Parents, please note that we will just “parade” on the playground to celebrate the joy of imagination.  We will not be trick or treating, so no candy or treats are expected.

Happy 50th Anniversary Binkley Preschool!

posted Sep 9, 2015, 8:10 AM by Kim Buckley   [ updated Oct 16, 2015, 7:59 AM ]

The Preschool is excited to be celebrating our 50 year anniversary this year!

October 4th was a joyous day in the life of Binkley Preschool. We joined the Binkley Baptist Church congregation in a morning of fellowship and joy. Then after the service, members of the greater Binkley family gathered for ice cream and kid-friendly activities. It was wonderful to see so many of the Binkley Family, past and present!

Binkley Preschool was started in 1965 by members of the Binkley Church community who were concerned about early education opportunities. Part of the original mission of the preschool was to provide a quality preschool experience for ALL children in our community....children of all races, creeds and socio-economic status were to be welcome in our halls. They still are! We honor and hold true to this mission today. We have one of the largest scholarship programs in the area.

We have more activities scheduled to enjoy this special year. Please watch the calendar and make plans to join usAll of us in the Binkley Preschool family appreciate the support that the Binkley Family, staff and members of Binkley Church have given the Preschool for the past 50 years! We are looking forward to 50 more!
